It is for young people who envision a safe, strong community in which people of every culture, every background can work together. It is for decision-makers, for leaders, for academics, for athletes, for drama kids, for musicians, for humanitarians, for environmentalists, for aspiring scientists, and writers....it is for young people who are trying to decide who they want to be. Youth in Philanthropy is for everyone because it is in place to benefit everyone in your community. And you can be a part of it. Interested? Read on, friends, it gets better. 1 Thought we should mention that YiP stands for YOUth in Philanthropy
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. – Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Canada's first community foundation, The Winnipeg Foundation, was established in 1921. Since it began, the Foundation has granted more than $250 million to a broad range of local charities. It is able to do this because of the support generated by more than 2,200 endowment funds established at the Foundation by people from all walks of life. Members of our Youth in Philanthropy (YiP) program and donors to the Foundation share a commitment to the Foundation's vision of "a Winnipeg where community life flourishes." The Winnipeg Foundation fulfills this vision through wise and effective grantmaking that meets the needs of the community, while respecting donors' wishes. Youth in Philanthropy is our flagship program, and adds a very valuable, youthful perspective to our grantmaking. We want to understand and acknowledge what the youth in our city care about; YiP is a great way to let us, and the community, know how you think we can make our city better.
